First Animal Aid Fun Day - A Great Success
The first Animal Aid Dog Show, was hosted by Amberlodge Kennels on 26th September 2010. The Show was a great success raising over 1000 Euros for Animal Aid.
Laurence and Elaine the owners of Amberlodge Kennels, made sure that everything was very organised and professional. The Dog Show had ten classes, ranging from 'The most waggiest tale' to 'The dog the judge would like to take home' All ten classes were sponsored by local business's and friends.
Laura Kichenside, the Stewardess, did a great job of organising the dogs and owners in the show. The official photographer, Lisa Walter, took photo's of all the winning dogs, who all sat quite proudly with their rosettes by their sides. The weather although forecast to be cloudy with showers, was glorious sunshine all day.
Laurence got on with the cooking of burgers and hot dogs etc, whilst Elaine and Laura were kept busy on registration. Henri erected the sunshades and the tables for the stalls and Javier from Benican in Benimar arrived at 1:30pm to Judge the Dogs.
The day was a complete success with over 40 dogs being entered in the show. The Ice Cream Van turned up in the afternoon and was welcomed by one and all.
Animal Aid would like to thank Laurence and Elaine, their family and friends and all the people who supported us on the day.

She is around 7 months old and the operation will cost some 500 euro and besides the need for refuge during her recovery. She is a German shepherd cross. She is in San Antón clinic.
CAN YOU HELP LIRONA, PLEASE?
Any donations welcome at San Anton or at Petshop Patricia, many thanks.

A Very Special Appeal for a Very Special Dog
This is a very special dog, looking for a very special person, who will love and devote time to him. We haven't uploaded the photos with his injuries on as they are too distressing to look at!
His old owners were undesirables that used their dogs just for breeding so they could sell the puppies, without any regard for their care, living conditions or decency for their welfare...
In one filthy cage lived 4 dogs in which they had no space to move, unfortunately they fought amongst themselves. Denver was attacked by his sister, which destroyed his face.
In April of this year, our protectora (local rescue kennel) took charge of him. To date all of his injuries have healed, although that was the least of it... Due to the bad neglect, care and hygiene (not vaccinated, no protection for leishmania/heartworm, neither for fleas/ticks, neither chip, neither nothing. ..) Denver was diagnosed by a German laboratory to have leishmania, dirofilaria reconditum, babesia, erhlichia and microfilaria.
At present he is receiving treatment for leishmania, erhlichia and dirofilaria. Little by little we will eradicate all the illnesses with exception of the leishmania which will have to be controlled. Denver has been neutered and physically very strong. He is about two years old, he enjoys his food, to play with other dogs, to be brushed and sleep in the shade. He doesn´t like the sun very much and seems more active in the cool of the evening.
He is obedient and well behaved but displays fear towards people and of busy places. He walks well on a lead in quiet areas where there is not a lot of movement or people.
We are looking for some very loving and responsible owners that can give him back his trust in people again so Denver can experience life within a loving family.

ONLY 7 DAYS TO LIVE UPDATED 28th May 2010
This German/Belgian Shepherd has only 7 days to live. Click here for details
If he is not found a new owner within that time he will be put to sleep. Please can someone help him.
Update 28th May 2010 -
With regard to the appeal for the Belgian German Shepherd, Animal Aid have rescued him from death row. She was delivered to the vets yesterday and within 5 minutes her eyes lit up, as though she knew she wasn't going to die. We need to find a special home for her as she is a very loving dog, with lots of loyalty to give, she needs to know she is wanted and loved.
On the way to Amber Lodge with Ell e(this is the name we have given her) in the back of the car Linda and I spotted a large German Shepherd Cross on the duel carraigeway, we had to rescue her, we could not leave her there to get injured or killed. We were helped by a Spanish Gentleman and and a lovely Spanish lady gave us a bottle of water for the dog. We would like to thank these people and all the drivers who slowed down and drove past her carefully, and anyone else who helped lead this dog out of danger.
The dog was very frightened and Linda risked her life to save him. Laurence from Amber Lodge came out to us as the dog refused to move, she was so afraid. Henri, Laurence's son picked her up and put her in the back of their car and we all arived safely at the kennels.
The photographs will appear soon on the website for both dogs. However Animal Aid are struggling for funds, so if there is anyone out there who would sponsor either one of these dogs, we would be very grateful. Also any bric a brac that we can sell will also be appreciated, just call Linda on 965725794

Urgent Appeal
There are 8 puppies in all, 4 puppies are predominently white with some black markings and the other 4 puppies are black with brown markings. The differences can be seen in the photos. The puppies are currently in La Marina.
At the moment we believe that if homes aren't found soon they will have to be put down but this will be the very last option.
If you can help give one of these a home please contact us urgently. Click on picture for larger view

Letter we received
Just over two weeks ago our Spanish neighbours lost their two dogs from their weekend house in the campo. They searched the local area and put up some flyers but there was no progress.
I contacted Animal Aid on their behalf with descriptions of the two missing dogs, and Linda their representative contacted her English contactes at Cereco, the Dog Pound in Crevillente.
My concern, remembering the conditions at Cereco a few years ago were that the two pets could easily be lost in the number of pets collected each week by the pound, and my neighbour confirmed only one was actually microchipped. Linda put my mind at rest and told me there are now a group of animal lovers working as volunteers at the centre and that it was under new Spanish Management.
Cutting a long story short the dog without microchip found its way home and the family had all but given up on finding the elder chipped dog but two weeks after her disappearance I was phoned by Linda saying the dog was at Cereco.
It appears the Spanish family had not updated the telephone number with RIVIA that run the microchip system here in Spain. The dog was reunited with her family and I should like to thank Cereco and Animal Aid for their assistance in this matter.
If anyone is looking for a lost pet I would suggest they include Animal Aid as a point of contact along with the other excellent Animal Rescue Organisations, and if anyone can offer a home to an abandoned pet or a foster home if permanent living is out of the question then Linda at Animal Aid, Costa Blanca is a person to contact.
They have a very comprehensive web site which all animal lovers would do well checking out.
Once again the thanks of my Spanish friends go to Animal Aid and Cereco for the excellent care the dog received and for reuniting her despite the incomplete information on her chip with her owners.
Yours Faithfully.

URGENT HOMES NEEDED aT CERECO
The Spanish Galgo, akin to our Greyhound is the most gentle and non aggressive breed we have had the pleasure to work with. They are also one of the most abused breeds in that when their hunting days are over they serve no purpose to their owners.
Many hunters retire them and bring on younger dogs. Many do not. The rescue centre brings them in and tears are shed at the condition of these brave dogs.
- They are broken spiritually, broken emotionally and broken physically.
- Gaping wounds,
- paws tethered together so tight we cannot find the tethers for the swelling,
- unable to stand,
- starved to the point of death.
This is not uncommon and in spite of their abuse and pain they still crave human affection and submit willingly to care and attention. We have seven Galgos in our care at present who desperately need loving homes. The dogs do not need massive amounts of space or exercise as life has exhausted them and they will happily sprawl over the settee, watching T.v. They need retirement and a quiet life! These Spanish Galgos are all waiting to give their unconditional love to someone who adores them like the babies they are.
King and Sherman are pictured with the CERECO dogs. This is Santiago, 5 years old, male and a real couch potato. We have 4 more! These dogs are free and their veterinary care to date is paid for by us BUT the new owner pays for their passports and sterilisation at a reduced rate.
CAN ANYONE HELP?

"Pepsi" left home on Monday 18th Jan and has not returned. We live near the windmill in Quesada and she needs to be found.
She is the only feline member of the family who stays indoors, sleeps with us and cleans her teeth every night!! Many people believe they have seen her around the golf course area of Quesada but we have had no luck so far.
She is a three-coloured cat of grey/black, white and ginger. She has a white face with grey/black over one eye and ginger over the other, she also has a half-length tail - we really miss her and need to have her back home again.
If you have any information at all, please call 966 714 506 or 647 750 830.

GOOD NEWS
These three little darlings are the three pups born in the Kennels to Poppy. Irene fostered them for a while and thought this picture of them waiting for their lunch could go on the website.
All three puppies now have new owners, the boy and girl are together and Tyson (the bigger fluffy one) now known as Carloss is going to the UK in 6 months time when he has a valid passport.

4th October 2009
THIS IS A VERY URGENT APPEAL.
We desperately need funds and other help for this really difficult time of the year. There are so many abandoned dogs. How people can go back to UK and just leave their pets behind we just don't know.
We are spending about 75 Euros a day on Kennels at the moment. It is hard work trying to maintain the income whilst also paying vet bills of roughly 750 Euros per week. Linda tries so hard to take any abandoned dog or cat and has re homed many of them within a week but she still has full kennels.
Also winter is coming and we need blankets and plastic beds, food and anything else you can think of. Can anyone organise fund raising events? Small events in your garden or outside your local bar or restaurant. Every little helps please.
We want to help all these abandoned and ill-treated animals but we need funds to do this. If you can find it in your heart to help us then please do so. If you need any guidance or further advise on fundraising events please do not hesitate to contact us.

Very Urgent Appeal

STOLEN!!! SAT.22ND.AUGUST FROM CERECO.
On saturday night 22nd August 2009, thieves broke into CERECO and snatched a very special little girl only 5 months old. She is the sister of a puppy called Thimble who we rehomed some weeks ago. This puppy was born in CERECO by a smooth fox terrier mum and a long haired fox terrier dad.
The photo of her is when she was 6 weeks old. She is now leggy, although still tiny and she is showing the signs of her dad"s wiry coat. We desperately want her back as she belongs to our Manager and he is devastated. The thieves only took her and we are all worried about her safety. She was fully vaccinated and ready for microchipping.
If any of our ANIMAL AID supporters are approached with a puppy like her for sale or as a gift, please contact ANIMAL AID.
We believe she might be in the Crevillente/Albatera region but who knows? Her name is CHULITA.
Cereco Update
Side by side in our kennels we have two gorgeous sheepdogs, one as black as the other is white!
One is called Lulu .... more
The other is called Scruff .......more
These two beautiful sheepdogs, so so different yet so alike deserve to be running free and we desperately need homes for them both. Large dogs are much more difficult to find homes for but we are hoping that someone will read this and have the space for these deserving dogs.

Wendy is a 6 year old American Cocker Spaniel, Female, she was found tied up in the Campo. She has a very gentle nature, she just needs a home desperately, She has had all her injections.
She has no where to go and is at the vet's at the moment, but at the weekend she is homeless. This appeal is really urgent, if you can help please ring Linda as soon as you can.
Update on Charly (below-5th February)
Laurence has been looking after Charley since February, he saved the dogs life as he was going to be put to sleep.
So another big THANK YOU to Laurence and Elaine at Amber Lodge Kennels. Laurence has also found him a home, via Chris in Alicante.
He lives 40 Kilometres past Valencia. He liked the look of Charly and came all the way to Elche/La Marina to see him. He has taken him home and at last Charly can relax again knowing that he will be loved and cared for by his new owner.
Rehomes
We have had a good time with rehoming lately see our Success Stories pages for the recent rehomes.

Cereco Update

A SPECIAL LADY! Lady, a nine month old german shepherd was rescued by cereco from the campo.
Her story is sadly far too common among many of the dogs brought in. Lady was starved, sick, infested and her eyes streamed green mucous.
We segregated her, gave her antibiotics and started to feed her regularly. Over the course of a month Lady was very up and down.
Finally kicking off the infections we brought her into the adoption centre for the second time.
By this time we realised Lady had not only come to us sick but pregnant! PANIC STATIONS.
Full story here....

Dogs at Large have asked us to add this special case to our website.
This is a poor German Shepherd that had been tied up for the two years of his life in a garden with little food and no love or attention.
Hopefully someone will soon provide him with the loving home he now truly deserves. More ........

CERECO NEWS. - THE BEAR FACTS!
Animal Aid very kindly advertised some of our dogs, OSA, Spanish for bear, being one of them. Animal Aid were inundated with phone calls and we have managed to re home another three more German Shepherds, Karla, Tara and Sultan in the last two weeks. Many thanks to all for their time and effort in re homing these beautiful dogs.
We now have Romulus and Remus with us in cereco, also young male German Shepherds now on our appeals page. With the growing support we are experiencing, cereco adoption centre re homed 6 dogs last week, quite apart from the German Shepherds and the Spanish adoptions from the containment centre itself. At this time of year abandonment is at a peak, many dogs coming in dehydrated, sickly and irritable from the heat.
The more dogs we re home, the faster we can take the dogs from the containment area and prepare them for adoption. The support from Animal Aid has given us a window into the English speaking communities on the Costa Blanca and our thanks go to them and everyone who visits us and re homes one of our dogs!

CERECO UPDATE!
The owners of a pure bred, papered Great Schnauzer called Lucas signed over this gorgeous two year old male dog to cereco in the hope a home could be found for him quickly.
With his microchipping in Cereco"s name, the rehoming process can be almost immediate. Ears buzzed and phones rang between cereco and Animal Aid. Hey presto Linda sent us prospective owners almost immediately! Not only did this couple take our Schnauzer, they also fell in love with, and took a small long haired pretty boy of 12 months old called Lonnie as well!
With the help of Animal Aid these two boys were rehomed before we put them on the website. Many thanks.
On the same day, Linda sent us some neighbours of hers to look at a2 year old Labrador called Monty, also signed over to us this week. Another gorgeous young dog not yet on the website. He too now has new owners!
Also rehomed was Nim a young Samoyed, fully grown and very loving.
We have many dogs, not all as pretty or lucky as these three, but equally deserving. The more we rehome, the more we are able to bring into the adoption centre.

SOS - Urgent
Gomez, a 2 or 3 years old cocker spaniel size doggie used to be so happy. His family, an old man who used to take long walks with him every day ( they especially loved the park, where Gomez used to joyfully play and jump) loved him and Gomez loved him back with the loyalty and blind faith only animals and few people feel.
But the man suddenly died and Gomez was thrown out into the streets to fend for himself. Since then he does not stop looking for his old man everywhere, when other dogs attack him he does not resist (see one of his wounds in the picture attached, he cares about nothing except to find his family, and gets weaker and weaker. Are we going to let him die in the streets?
He is in grave danger of being killed by dogs or men! If you can adopt Gomez please contact Linda. Please note that he cannot go to the UK because of the quarantine laws there.

A Sammie Whammie! Cereco Update
Sammie has been up for adoption, in Cereco, for over 4 months now. Animal Aid and Cereco had no success locally finding a home.
In desperation I called a Samoyed rescue society in Nottingham, run by Brenda Walker.
Once they had seen a photo of this gorgeous dog they took him into their protection. It was decided he would be passported, boarded in kennels for 6 months and relocated to England at the cost of the society.
I was overwhelmed at the unconditional love and generosity of organisations like Animal Aid and Samoyed rescue, who rely solely on donations to fund this wonderful work.
Sammie at 6 years old has a truly new start in life. My thanks and Sammie's thanks to Samoyed Rescue, Animal Aid and Amber Lodge, who are boarding Sammie for us and arranging his relocation!

A Yorkie Tale!
I arrived at Cereco a scruffy, dirty urchin, unkempt and traumatised. I had been dumped out of a car onto the road! The police brought me here. I was scared, alone and in my two years of life, sadly neglected. Friends of Animal Aid witnessed my abandonment and contacted Linda, who then contacted an english speaking helper at Cereco.
There I was, under all that dirt and gunge, a silver grey yorkie! my helper at Cereco, Sue, has done wonders with me and I found my bark after her wonderful care. Animal Aid are paying for my injections/microchipping and have found me a loving home. Thanks to everyone concerned!
If you wanted a little, loving companion dog like me, my two playmates are on Cereco page, not Yorkies but adorable and homeless.

We have added another Appeal page to our website for Pinoso Association for the Protection of Animals (PAPAs).
Update from Cereco. Many spanish people take their dogs from rescue centres and on saturday 18th April 10 puppies, a german shepherd male and a hunting dog were all rehomed. Cereco is open to all!
Special Request from Cereco: We would appeal to all english speaking dog owners who are going home and might not come back for whatever reason, to safe guard the welfare of their microchipped dogs and sign them over to someone living here before leaving and speak to your vet about procedure.
These dogs are severely disadvantaged because they still belong to you even if you are abroad! Sign them over and give them a fighting chance for quick adoption!

Remember Louis the Boxer who was abandoned by his owners - well he was rehomed but unfortunately his new owner has had to return to Belgium so poor Louis is back with us. Please consider giving Louis a new stable home.... more here.
8th April 2009
We have added a new page to our website in an attempt to help the dogs which are currently being kept at Cereco which is a temporary rescue/containment centre for lost and abandoned dogs. They have no facility for long term care, although they are trying very hard to rehome as many dogs as they can. The numbers of abandoned dogs are growing due to the exodus of english people back to england and they are rescuing more and more microchipped dogs whose paperwork has not been updated. Linda has been in contact with Ana who works at the Animal Pound.
Ana says 'THE STAFF OF CERECO AND ALL OUR DOGS WOULD LIKE TO THANK LINDA AND ALL THE SUPPORTING STAFF FOR GIVING US OUR FIRST OPPORTUNITY EVER TO ADVERTISE DIRECTLY ON AN ENGLISH WEBSITE.OUR OWN WEBSITE IS UNDER RECONSTRUCTION,AND HAS NEVER BEEN IN ENGLISH. MANY THANKS TO YOU ALL .
OUR HISTORY ON OUR DOGS IS VERY OFTEN NIL, SO I HAVE WRITTEN FROM MY OWN EXPERIENCE OF THEM. AGAIN MANY THANKS. THIS IS A LANDMARK OCCASION FOR US ALL AT CERECO, AS WE ALL HAVE THE INTERESTS OF ABANDONED ANIMALS AT HEART AND IF JUST ONE OF THESE DOGS IS REHOMED THROUGH THE WEBSITE THEN WE HAVE ALL GAINED SO MUCH'.
Please take the time to visit their page on this site if you feel you may be able to help the dogs that they have for rehoming.
2nd April 2009
Since our last update we have rehomed 10 dogs. Thanks to all the people involved. However, we still need many many homes for the dogs we currently have and the ones that people returning to the UK are unable to take with them. It is a very busy time for us as this has exacerbated the situation of homeless dogs.
Please come forward if you are able to foster or adopt.

A Nice Story
“Well 2 weeks ago I was all alone, scared, hungry, and cold, living by a lake. Then this big black dog came upto me and found me, followed by three humans sitting on big animals I had never seen before. I was terrified and cowered down. One of the humans, a crazy lady, picked me up.
I struggled when she took me near one of those big animals, so she carried me a little distance away. I was so snug in her arms next to her warm fleece. She carried me for ages I was so tired I just snuggled into her. After a long walk she put me in this room with shavings on the floor. Another human gave me some ham sandwich, it tasted so good. Not long after I was put in a car…. I kept trying to sit on the crazy lady’s lap!
She took me to a pet shop where I saw another lady who ran this thing over my body, I heard them say I didn’t have a microchip. Well the other lady then got a spray and smothered me in this stuff and picked ticks out of my ear. The crazy lady bought a collar for me then drove me to a little house where another little black and tan dog was. He scared me and I growled at him a few times. The crazy lady left me in the garden and I went to sleep after having a little dinner.
Well a very kind lady called Linda agreed to pay for me to have my jabs etc & after having another trip to someone they call a vet who gave me a jab, I have now been here 2 weeks. This crazy lady says she is now my Mummy and there is also a smaller human like her who is my sister she says. I like the other dog too, he doesn’t bother me. My new Daddy works in England but I have met him and he likes me too! As you can see it hasn’t taken me long to get comfortable!!!
Oh and I have been ever such a good girl. I don’t pee or poo in the house. I don’t chew anything. I just love my new family and they love me.”

Every now and again you hear really disturbing news. Just when you think you cannot hear of anything more cruel and disgusting than you have heard before - you do. And this is it.
There is a link just below but do not click on it unless you are really brave. We have been warned that it is to gruesome to watch and something needs to done to stop it. Thanks for your support.
There is no need to see the video, but if you must, be aware, it's horrible. The following video is of excruciating violence. Its painful silences affect us all deeply. If we don't protect animals from this type of brutality, we become accomplices
Please complete PETAs online survey by clicking here to show your support and forward it to all your contacts - this has to be stopped!!!
Or you can write a letter directvto the Chinese ambassador urging China to enact an animal welfare law that will stop the cruel handling of dogs, cats and other animals at markets and during transportation:

We explain the process below: With a hidden camera, animals were filmed being SKINNED ALIVE!!! They say it's done to get a more perfect ''cut''.afterwards the carcasses are tossed into a pile, still alive, and for up to 10 minutes you can see their hearts still beating, in agony, their eyes still blinking, and the puppies little paws still shaking. There was one pup, that still lifted his head and gazed at the camera with bloodied eyes . If you don't care to see the video, please complete the survey and forward to your friends.
The insiders saw visibly exhausted dogs and cats who were languishing in tiny cages. Some had been on the road for days, transported in flimsy wire-mesh cages with no food or water. Twenty cats were crowded into a single cage. The investigators saw the results of the cross-country transport in such deplorable conditions – dead cats on top of the cages, dying cats and dogs inside the cages and animals with open wounds. Some animals were lethargic or frightened, and others were fighting with each other, driven insane from confinement and exposure to the elements. Up to 800 animals are loaded onto each lorry in cages that are stacked one on top of the other. Cages containing live animals are commonly tossed from the tops of the lorries onto the ground 10 feet below, shattering the legs of the animals inside them. Many of the animals the investigators saw were still wearing collars, a sign that they were beloved companions who were stolen to be made into fur coats.
This monstrosity has to be stopped, we have to act!!

We had a sad case last week of a poor dog called Bernie we rescued who had been left in a garden for 5 years with only holiday visits for company, so lonely and diagnosed with Leishmaniosis. He had never been in a house, the state of him was so upsetting.
The update on this story is that unfortunately Bernie had a tumour on his stomach and because of anaemia caused by the Leishmaniosis, to relieve his suffering he had to be put to sleep.
This was reported to us several months ago but we were unable to get into the garden. A neighbour who had been asked to feed him, for the first time, asked for our help as the little dog looked neglected. If we could have got to him earllier we may have been able to save this poor little thing and give him a better life than he had. IF YOU SEE ANY POOR ANIMAL BEING MISTREATED OR NEGLECTED IN ANY WAY PLEASE CONTACT US. Poor Bernie had lived without love all his little life, we need you to help us make sure this does not happen to any other dog

In the event of an animal in severe distress through injury or abandonment please contact us.
Feeding an injured animal will help it survive but it will not relieve its pain and suffering. It must have veterinary care.
Please think twice before phoning the police about an animal you have found. The Police send the dogs to the local dog pounds where the conditions are horrific. The dogs are often left without water or food for days whilst they are queued for execution in a not very nice way. Ill animals are not given veterinary treatment. The dogs are not advertised for rehoming, nor any other steps taken.' If you want more information on this go to www.brighteyes.dk.
